Nestled between the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and the expansive grasslands of southern Alberta, Calgary is the corporate hub of petroleum and agriculture. Hosting a beautiful river valley and a vibrant downtown, Calgary is home to one-third of Alberta’s population. Calgary is likely best-known for its annual rodeo and exhibition, the Calgary Stampede. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012, the Stampede is one of the most popular events in the city, drawing 1 million visitors per year. The Stampede is supported by over 2,000 volunteers working through committees and sitting on the Board of Directors. The Calgary Stampede is just one example of the long history of volunteerism in the city. There are more than 5,000 nonprofit/voluntary sector organizations in Calgary, all of which can now quickly determine which leadership learning is best for them, and be connected to the organizations offering those learning opportunities through KnowledgeConnector.
